NAB Show 2025 Redux
NAB 2025 wasn’t quite what I expected. Tech for content creators took a bit of a back seat this year. My personal favorite was the Godox MS60R (and RS60R) 60W lights, which have found a spot in my travel kit already. Notably missing was an Insta360 X5 release, but one will presumably appear soon. I wouldn’t expect a DJI Pocket 4 until next year.
It was a bit of an itterative year, but not without notable standouts:
Cameras & Lenses
- Blackmagic PYXIS 12K: Packages the existing 12K sensor from the URSA line into a modular box body, allowing for easier rigging on drones, gimbals, and tight spaces.
- Sony HDC-P50A: A compact POV camera featuring a 2/3-inch 4K global shutter. It offers broadcast-quality imaging in a reduced footprint, specifically useful for live sports and event integration.
- NiSi Aureus Cine Primes: A new set of full-frame cinema lenses with a fast T1.4 aperture. They bring professional optical characteristics and unified gear placement to a mid-tier price point.
Lighting Solutions
- Aputure STORM XT52: A high-output LED utilizing a five-color engine for accurate daylight and tungsten rendition. It serves as an efficient, color-tunable alternative to traditional HMIs on professional sets.
- Amaran Pano 60c & 120c: Ultra-slim RGB panels powered via USB-C. Their tablet- and laptop-like dimensions are tailored for mobile creators needing quality lighting without the bulk.
- Nanlite PavoTube II 6XR: A 10-inch RGB tube light featuring built-in wireless control and individual pixel mapping. It is a capable tool for practical on-set accents and tight locations.
- Godox MS60R: A compact RGB fixture that balances modular modifiers with precise color control, suitable for small studio configurations and quick interview setups.
Audio & Monitoring
- Sennheiser MKH 8018: A stereo shotgun microphone engineered to capture detailed spatial audio, addressing the growing delivery requirements for immersive media formats.
- Accsoon CineView M7 PRO: A 1000-nit, 7-inch monitor with an integrated wireless receiver. It reduces equipment clutter for director and client viewing stations.
- Hollyland Cosmo C2: A wireless video transmission system delivering a 3,000-foot range and 33ms latency, supporting more reliable multi-camera monitoring in high-interference environments.
Power, Support & Data
- SmallRig X-Touch Smart Battery: A rugged 99Wh V-mount power source featuring a 2-inch touchscreen and app connectivity. It moves away from standard LED indicators to provide exact runtime data.
- DJI RS 4 Mini: An iterative update to the compact gimbal line. It adds native vertical shooting hardware and refines motor algorithms to better support modern lightweight mirrorless setups.
- Tilta Nucleus-M II: A revised wireless follow focus system. It offers improved motor torque, battery life, and an updated user interface for working focus pullers.
- Teradek Prism Jetpack: A 5G cellular bonding solution integrated into a wearable backpack. It combines multi-network connectivity and monitoring to facilitate stable remote live broadcasts.
- OWC ThunderBlade X12: A portable Thunderbolt 5 RAID SSD. It provides the sustained, high-speed data transfer rates necessary for the immediate on-set offloading of multi-camera raw media.
